Eco Star Gazer’s Cottage

The Star Gazer Cottage is one of Gunyatoo’s most unique escapes, a secluded stone cottage where you can truly switch off and reconnect with nature.

Often described by guests as “camping in royal style”, this off grid retreat has no electricity, only solar lighting, a gas fridge and stove, and hot water heated by a traditional donkey boiler.

But the real magic begins after dark.

With virtually no light pollution across the Rhenosterhoek Valley, the night sky is extraordinary. Run yourself a steaming hot bath, settle in and look up at an uninterrupted canopy of stars. It is one of those experiences that stays with you long after you leave.

The cottage is wonderfully flexible for families, groups of friends and fishing getaways, sleeping up to seven guests. Upstairs can be arranged as a king bed with one single bed, or as three single beds. Downstairs offers a sleeper couch that can be configured as a queen or two singles, plus two additional single beds.

There are indoor and outdoor braai areas, a kitchenette with gas fridge and stove, and the cottage is serviced daily. Phones and other electronics can be charged at the Main Lodge, just a short walk away.

For families, the setting is particularly special. The cottage sits right beside Gunyatoo’s Secret Fairy Garden, giving children their own little wonderland to explore while parents relax nearby.

For fishing groups, it offers exactly what you need. Space for everyone, flexible sleeping arrangements, easy access to the farm and fishing waters, and a peaceful place to gather around the braai at the end of the day.

Bring walking shoes, binoculars, fishing gear, good food and someone you enjoy spending time with. Then slow everything down.

Pets may be considered by prior arrangement. Approval depends on your dog and whether other dogs are staying on the farm at the same time. Please contact us before booking with a pet and wait for confirmation before bringing them.
